On May 1st, the first day of the May Day holiday, Haikou experienced a peak in tourist traffic. The arcade-style old street, one of the city's iconic cultural and tourism landmarks, was bustling with visitors; its Nanyang-style architecture harmonized beautifully with the vibrant atmosphere, attracting numerous locals and tourists to visit and take photos. That day, the "Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Service Team dispatched six foreign members to the Zhongshan Road arcade street to conduct volunteer services, providing enthusiastic and professional assistance to travelers, creating a distinctive cross-cultural highlight during the holiday period.

It is reported that the "Haikou Yeah" Haikou International Talent Volunteer Service Team was jointly established by the Haikou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the Haikou Municipal Bureau of Foreign Experts, aiming to build a bridge for cultural exchange between China and other countries, mobilize international talent resources, and support the international development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. To date, the team has organized over 80 volunteer activities, serving more than 5,000 individuals, thereby making tangible contributions to enhancing Haikou's international influence. The six foreign volunteers participating in this initiative hail from countries including Pakistan, Myanmar, and Indonesia; they voluntarily gave up their holidays, serving as "volunteer ambassadors" who dedicated themselves to providing services in the traditional arcade streets of Haikou.

At the event site, despite the dense crowd, the foreign volunteers maintained high enthusiasm throughout. Uniformly dressed in volunteer attire, they provided orderly services at major intersections and around scenic spots along the old street, focusing on offering assistance such as road guidance and attraction introductions to passing tourists, while patiently answering various inquiries about transportation routes, local cuisine, and nearby attractions. When responding to tourist requests—whether guiding them to the Shuixiangkou Market or explaining the historical origins of the arcade architecture—they offered services in English. For Chinese tourists, all six foreign volunteers responded fluently in Chinese with detailed explanations, conveying warmth through sincere smiles and bridging the gaps between languages and cultures.

"I was initially worried about not finding my way, but to my surprise, a foreign volunteer offered help proactively. Not only were they patient, but their Chinese was also excellent – truly thoughtful!" praised Ms.Zhou, a tourist from Foshan. Many visitors expressed gratitude to the volunteers after receiving assistance, noting that their presence not only resolved practical travel difficulties but also allowed them to experience Haikou's openness and inclusiveness, adding a special touch of warmth and memorable moments to their journey.

This May Day holiday volunteer service initiative not only brought diverse contributions to tourism services along the arcade-style old street, alleviating service pressure during peak visitor periods, but also enabled foreign volunteers to gain a deeper understanding of Haikou's culture and integrate into urban life through practical experience, further fostering cultural exchange and integration between China and other countries. Moving forward, the "Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Service Team will continue to recruit more international participants and carry out more specialized and targeted volunteer activities, turning these international contributors into a vibrant hallmark of Haikou's volunteer sector and contributing to the development of a coastal tourist city with greater international appeal and human warmth.
