To further promote international educational exchange in the Hainan Free Trade Port, implement the grassroots outreach initiative of serving the public through foreign affairs work, leverage the professional expertise of international talents, and enhance the quality and efficiency of rural basic education, the Haikou Foreign Affairs Office organized
the "Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Service Team's education expert group to visit Dongying Primary School in Lingshan Town, Meilan District on the afternoon of May 22, where they conducted free interest classes in English and music.
This public welfare classroom was led by Professor Fu Jihu and Teacher Mona, both Singaporean citizens, in collaboration with two other Singaporean music teachers to form a volunteer teaching team. Leveraging the resources of the Haikou International Talent Home, they designed an immersive bilingual education program specifically tailored for children. During the sessions, Professor Fu Jihu and Teacher Mona avoided traditional didactic approaches; instead, they employed engaging
oral interactions, scenario-based dialogue simulations, and English song performances to create a relaxed and lively learning environment. This approach encouraged children to speak confidently, enhanced their English listening and speaking skills through enjoyable interactions, and allowed them to experience the charm of cross-language communication.
The music classes are equally vibrant and engaging. Singaporean music teachers employ lively and interactive teaching methods to help children explore melodies and rhythms, learn to play simple instruments, and participate in group musical games, integrating music theory knowledge into enjoyable activities that fully stimulate children's interes
in music and artistic potential. This enables rural students to gain firsthand exposure to international music education concepts, fostering their character development and igniting their dreams through aesthetic cultivation.
"The Haikou Yeah" International Talent Volunteer Service Group, jointly established by the Haikou Foreign Affairs Office and the Haikou Bureau of Science, Technology and Industrial Information (Haikou Foreign Experts Bureau), serves as a vital public welfare platform that mobilizes international talent resources in Hainan and embodies the philosophy of "people-oriented foreign affairs and global collaboration." This initiative exemplifies how foreign affairs departments engage with grassroots communities and extend their resources to educational institutions. Since its inception, the group has consistently organized volunteer activities including campus support programs, community services, and cultural exchanges, fostering multicultural integration and advancing Haikou's internationalization efforts. Professor Fu Jihu and Teacher Mona, core foreign volunteers of the group who have long dedicated themselves to Hainan's education sector, delivered a public lecture at Dongying Primary School, demonstrating their commitment to local educational development through expertise and passion. The event not only provided students with engaging English and music learning experiences enriched by international perspectives but also showcased how foreign affairs initiatives empower education and bring global resources to grassroots levels—a tangible manifestation of international volunteerism and a bridge for Sino-foreign educational exchange. Moving forward, the group will collaborate with the Haikou International Talent Center to strengthen regular school outreach programs, integrate premium international educational resources, and continue delivering campus-based volunteer services, ensuring that the benefits of international education reach more rural students while contributing to balanced educational development and global engagement in Hainan Free Trade Port.
