On November 9, the event "Discovering Intangible Cultural Heritage: A Meeting on Coconut Island," a cultural experience day for foreign talents focusing on the traditional Dad Tea culture of intangible heritage, was successfully held in Haikou. It was organized by the Public Contact Workstation for Foreign Friendship Members of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Haikou International Talent Center.
During the event, nearly 20 international participants from Singapore, Slovakia, Canada, Côte d 'Ivoire and other countries immersed themselves in Hainan's traditional dad tea culture, sampled authentic intangible cultural heritage tea snacks, explored the rich folk traditions behind Hainan's tea beverages, experienced the vibrant local life through the aromatic ambiance of tea, and built a bridge for cross-cultural exchange.
Hainan Dad Tea originated in the early 20th century from the Western-style tea restaurant culture introduced by overseas Chinese returning to their hometown. It earned its name because most patrons were elderly individuals (referred to as "Dad" in Hainan). Today, as a newly recognized provincial intangible cultural heritage, Dad Tea is gaining international recognition with a more contemporary and global appeal.
Mr.Fu, Full-time Deputy Director of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs, attended the event.
