On the morning of August 5, the opening ceremony for the 2026 "Service for the People" Summer English Public Welfare Class at the Guomao Compound, hosted by the External Friendship Sector Workstation of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (Haikou International Talent Home), was held at the Party-Mass Activity Center of the Guomao Compound, Jinmao Subdistrict, Longhua District, Haikou City. Attendees at the ceremony included Mr.Fu, Full-time Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Secretary-General of the Hainan Public Diplomacy Association; Ms.Deng Yingying, Director of the Provincial Foreign Exchange Service Center of the Hainan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and Convener of the External Friendship Sector Workstation of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; as well as more than 30 primary and secondary school students from the local area who participated in the inaugural session of the class.
本次活动落实省政协 2026 年 “服务为民” 工作部署，立足海南自贸港国际化建设需求，发挥对外友好界别涉外人才优势，面向社区青少年开设免费英语公益课。课程安排在 8 月每周三和周五 ，共 6 期，邀约 多名外籍人士参与授课互动，旨在丰富青少年暑期生活，提升英语表达能力，拓宽国际视野。
This initiative implements the 2026 "Serving the People" work plan of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), addresses the internationalization needs of the Hainan Free Trade Port, leverages the advantages of foreign-related talents from friendly external circles, and offers free public welfare English courses for community youth. The courses will be held on every Wednesday and Friday throughout August, spanning a total of 6 sessions; several foreign nationals have been invited to participate in teaching and interactive activities. The initiative aims to enrich the summer vacation experience of young people, enhance their English communication skills, and broaden their global perspectives.

Following a brief opening ceremony, the inaugural course commenced with joint instruction by Professor Fu Jihu and Dr. Mona from the National University of Singapore. Centered on the theme of "Service," the course integrates English language learning with moral education, featuring an engaging and dynamic classroom format.
课程开篇通过拍手记名字、双人情景对话游戏，带领孩子们练习自我介绍基础口语，消除开口胆怯心理。核心环节共读绘本《伤心的猴子》，讲师结合插画讲解双语词汇，通过故事传递 “助人方能收获快乐” 的道理。课堂邀请 6 名学生分角色演绎故事，搭配随堂选择题巩固学习成果，加深大家对服务、奉献内涵的理解。
The course begins with activities such as clapping to write their names and a two-person role-playing dialogue game, guiding children in practicing basic self-introduction speech and helping them overcome their shyness when speaking. The core session involves reading the picture book *The Sad Monkey*, where the instructor uses the illustrations to explain bilingual vocabulary and conveys the message that "helping others leads to happiness." During the class, six students are invited to perform the story in different roles; this is followed by a set of in-class multiple-choice questions to reinforce the learning outcomes and deepen everyone's understanding of the concepts of service and dedication.
课堂穿插英文儿歌、趣味绕口令、肢体互动小游戏与分组交流环节。孩子们跟着旋律歌唱、练习发音，通过趣味动作游戏活跃氛围；双人分享环节引导学生结合生活，讲述帮助他人或被帮助的亲身经历，用双语分享内心感受。课程最后结合飞行员、警察、教师、医生等职业，引导学生思考不同岗位服务社会的意义，实现语言学习与社会责任教育相融。
The classroom session incorporates English nursery rhymes, fun tongue-twisters, physical interaction games, and group discussion segments. The children sing along to the melodies and practice their pronunciation, while lively movement-based games help energize the atmosphere; the paired sharing session guides students to draw from their daily lives by recounting personal experiences of helping others or being helped, using bilingual language to express their inner feelings; at the conclusion of the lesson, the session explores various professions—such as pilots, police officers, teachers, and doctors—to encourage students to reflect on the significance of different roles in serving society, thereby integrating language learning with social responsibility education.

Participating students remarked that the course combines education with entertainment, enabling them not only to learn English but also to develop the ability to proactively help others. Instructor Mona explained that the course is closely aligned with the developmental needs of young people in the Free Trade Port; while enhancing their foreign language skills, it fosters a spirit of friendliness and mutual support and establishes a small platform for cultural exchange between China and other countries at the grassroots level.

Next, the work station will continue to leverage its sector-specific strengths, regularly provide internationalized public-benefit services, bring the duties of the CPPCC to the grassroots level, enrich the cultural life of the masses, and mobilize the enthusiasm of young people as well as strengthen the foundation for civil-to-civil foreign exchanges in the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
