“这里有1000多本书，大多是用外语讲述中国故事”近日，在海口国际人才之家，今年68岁的图书馆编目系统顾问符积虎博士一边整理书籍一边介绍。
2023年，因看好海南自贸港的发展前景，符积虎与妻子莫娜从新加坡来到海口。“海口加快建设自贸港核心引领区，海口国际人才之家正帮助更多外籍人才更快适应海口、融入海口，在这里工作让我很有成就感。”符积虎说，海口阅读氛围浓厚，国际化程度高，是一座具有国际范的书香城市。

助力国际人才生活工作更便利
符积虎出生在新加坡，祖籍是海南文昌，曾在北京、武汉工作。2023年，他和妻子莫娜来到海口后，莫娜受邀到海南中学国际部担任英语教师，他则成为海口国际人才之家的图书馆编目系统顾问，负责“人才书屋／外国专家书屋”书籍管理工作。
近日，记者走进该书屋看到，书架上整齐陈列着各类外语书籍，涵盖英文、俄文、德文、法文等多个语种，涉及历史、文学和海南民俗等多个学科门类。海口国际人才之家相关负责人介绍，符积虎攻读硕士学位期间曾学过图书馆管理，在这里他将所学知识用于日常工作，包括充实书目、管理图书编码等，便于外籍读者查阅。
“海口对国际人才很友好。”符积虎说，海口支持各类用人单位吸引集聚境外人才，对符合条件的给予相应补贴，推进外国人和港澳台居民生活工作便利化，正吸引着越来越多的国际人才来到这里。为助力提升国际人才办事效率，他积极发挥语言优势，主动提供翻译服务，协助更多国际人才在琼生活工作便利化。

In 2023, inspired by the promising development prospects of Hainan Free Trade Port, Fu Jihu and his wife Mona moved from Singapore to Haikou. "Haikou is accelerating the development of its core leading zone for the free trade port, and the Haikou International Talent Home is helping more foreign professionals adapt to and integrate into the city more quickly. Working here gives me a great sense of achievement," said Fu Jihu, adding that Haikou boasts a strong reading culture and high internationalization level, making it a book-loving city with a distinct global character.
By reporter Xiao Weixiang: Making life and work more convenient for international talents. Fu Jihu was born in Singapore with ancestral roots in Wenchang, Hainan, and has worked in Beijing and Wuhan. In 2023, after moving to Haikou with his wife Mona, Mona was invited to serve as an English teacher at the International Department of Hainan High School, while he became a library cataloging system consultant at the Haikou International Talent Center, overseeing book management for the "Talent Bookstore/Foreign Experts Bookstore."
Recently, a reporter visited the bookstore and observed that the shelves were neatly arranged with various foreign language books in languages such as English, Russian, German, and French, covering disciplines including history, literature, and Hainan folk customs. A representative from the Haikou International Talent Center explained that during his master's studies, Fu Jihu had studied library management, and he applied this knowledge in his daily work—including updating book catalogs and managing book codes—to facilitate access for international readers.
"Haikou is very welcoming to international talents," said Fu Jihu. The city supports various employers in attracting and retaining overseas professionals, provides corresponding subsidies to eligible individuals, and facilitates the daily lives and work of foreigners as well as residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, thereby drawing an increasing number of international talents to the region. To enhance efficiency for international talents, he actively leverages his language skills by offering translation services to assist more of them in living and working comfortably in Haikou.
“走读”海口探寻滨海城市风情
“海口以书香满城塑造城市风貌，这里的‘24小时智慧共享’、‘线上线下自助借阅’、电子阅读和听书等服务都在不断优化升级，使得读者的阅读体验更加便捷、智能和多元化。”符积虎告诉记者，为了进一步完善海口国际人才之家的书屋书目，他时常“走读”海口，到省博物馆、省图书馆等场馆，感受海口浓厚的书香氛围。
符积虎说，工作之余，他还常走出家门“寻味海口”，品尝海南特色美食；漫步海口湾，邂逅海边落日余晖的绚烂；闲逛菜市场，感受滨海城市升腾的烟火气和海南人民的热情……每当有亲朋远道而来，他便将骑楼老街、万绿园等地标性场所作为户外“客厅”，邀客人一起领略椰风海韵中的浪漫。
为进一步激发市民群众对英语学习的兴趣，符积虎还与妻子一同走进社区，开办了20多场“家门口的英语角”活动，通过用英语唱童谣、讲故事等方式，吸引了一大批年 幼的“粉丝”积极练习口语。
“未来，我和莫娜将继续发挥所学专业优势，为国际人才在海口的工作生活提供志愿服务，同时助力提升本地居民的英语沟通水平，为自贸港建设贡献一份力量。”符积虎说。

To further enrich the book collection at the Haikou International Talent Home Library, he frequently conducts field visits to venues like the Provincial Museum and Provincial Library to immerse himself in Haikou's rich literary ambiance.
Fu Jihu said that in his spare time, he often steps outside to "explore Haikou's flavors," savoring Hainan's distinctive cuisine; strolls along Haikou Bay, taking in the breathtaking sunset glow by the sea; and wanders through local markets, experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of this coastal city and the warmth of the people of Hainan... Whenever relatives or friends visit from afar, he turns iconic landmarks such as the Qilou Old Street and Wanlü Garden into outdoor "living rooms," inviting guests to share in the romance of coconut breezes and coastal charm.
To further spark public interest in English learning, Fu Jihu and his wife have organized over 20 "English Corner" events in local communities. By singing nursery rhymes and telling stories in English, they have attracted numerous young enthusiasts who actively practice spoken English.
"In the future, Mona and I will continue to leverage our professional expertise to provide volunteer services for international professionals working and living in Haikou, while also helping improve local residents' English communication skills and contributing to the development of the free trade port," said Fu Jihu.
